Metal is best seen in the darkness. But not everyone can stay out past midnight to see a show, and some of the reasons are even legitimate. So we were pleased to receive this press release today:
And for the first time this year, LA Weekly’s LA Weekend festivities will include Saturday Afternoon Metal. On Saturday afternoon those who attend LA Weekend will be able to partake in live performances from three of Los Angeles’ finest metal bands. DREAMING DEAD are fresh off a national tour with death metal icons Nile, having impressed audiences with their blackened blend of death and thrash metal influences. PROFESSOR has become a rising star on the Los Angeles metal scene with their Mastodon-meets-Iron Maiden aesthetic. DREAMS OF DAMNATION uphold the long tradition of Los Angeles thrash metal, highlighted by the vicious vocals of Loana dP Valencia and the guitar showmanship of Jim Durkin (Dark Angel). All three of these bands will assault audiences with their blistering metal attacks.
So what is LA Weekend? We're not exactly sure, but we know this much. The 2nd Annual LA Weekend takes place next Saturday, May 21st, at the Saban Theater on 8440 Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills. It's a way lovelier room than most of us are used to. Admission is $12.50 in advance and $15 at the door, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Charles Mingus Youth Arts Center in Watts. The metal begins at 4 PM and they are throwing in a bonus showing of Until The Lights Takes Us, the Norwegian black metal documentary. And best of all, you can bring the kids. It's never too early to indoctrinate.
